Interweaved with the present day story about Natalie's struggle in her marriage, we slowly learn about the past. And particularly about the past Natalie never dealt with. Ryker Manning, her ex-boyfriend who went off to war, but didn't come home the same. Ryker and Natalie's story was heartbreaking and touching. By the time I got to the end of the book, I felt like I'd been run through the wringer, twisted and turned inside out, and then healed on the way out the other wise.
